Fmoc-Phe(4-Br)-OH is used in the preparation of peptides containing Phe(4-Br) residues.  Phe(4-Br) is a fluorescence quencher and has been utilized in structural studies (G Basu, D Anglos, A Kuri, Biochemistry, 1993, 32, 3067-76).  Additionally, Phe(4-Br) residues can be converted to biaryl residues by Suzuki-Miyaura coupling (MA Oberli, SL Buchwald, Org. Lett., 2012, 14, 4606-9; S Liu, et al., J. Med. Chem., 2005, 48, 3630-8).
