Fmoc-Bpa-OH is used to prepare peptides for photoconjugation and photolabeling studies.  When exposed to UV light, Bpa forms bonds to groups within its vicinity.  Bpa-containing compounds were used to monitor the assembly of a secreted virulance factor (O Pavlova, R Ieva, HD Bernstein, J. Vis. Exp., 2013, (82): e51217) and to identify the binding site of glucagon-like peptide -1 receptor (M Dong, DI Pinon, LJ Miller, Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett., 2012, 22 638-41).  Peptides containing Bpa were used in the photoaffinity labeling of Ras converting enzyme (K Kyro, et al., Bioorg. Med. Chem., 2011, 19, 7559-69) and to identify interstrand contact regions between assembled beta-amyloid peptide subunits (GF Egnaczyk, et al., Biochemistry, 2001, 40, 11706-14).
