HATU is a highly efficient activating reagent that produces higher yields and lower racemization than HBTU or PyBOP. It works well with reaction times as short as 1 minute (CA Chantell, MA Onelyekan, M Menakuru, J. Pept. Sci., 2012, 18, 88-91) and has been utilized in the preparation of 18F labelled peptides for use in positron emission tomography (JB White, et al., Appl. Radiat. Isot., 2012, 70, 2720-9).  HATU often is more effective than HBTU in difficuult sequences.  Like HBTU, HATU can form guanidinated by-products and should not be used in excess of the amino acid component.  HATU generally produces higher yields than HBTU, TBTU or PyBOP in difficult peptide couplings. Coupling with HATU is faster and produces less racemization than other common coupling reagents. (F. Albericio, et al., J. Org. Chem., 1998, 63, 9678-83).
