Boc-Thr(Bzl)-OH is the threonine derivative commonly utilized in Boc SPPS.  The benzyl group is usually removed with HF, TFMSA or TMSOTf when the peptide is cleaved from the resin.  It can also be removed by hydrogenolysis.  Like isoleucine, threonine has a second chiral center.  The S,R-enantiomer is the naturally occuring form.  The S,S-enantiomer is allo-threonine. The threonine sidechain is a hydrogen bond donor and acceptor, thus it may be important in receptor binding and protein folding. Some threonine residues may play a role in regulation by being glycosylated or phosphorylated.
