SPIRITTM Filters

SPIRITTM syringe filters and filter disks are ideal for preparing solvents and crude samples for HPLC analysis and purification.  The filters remove the fine, insoluble particle that can clog HPLC columns. SPIRITTM filter disks are a convenient way to highly filter and degas HPLC solvents.

Filter Selection Guide

Nylon-66 Properties

  • Hydrophobic
  • Low extractables
  • Resistant to a wide range of organic and aqueous solvents
  • Very high protein binding
  • Not resistant to acids and aggressive halogenated solvents

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Difluoride) Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Low extractables
  • Resistant to a wide range of organic and aqueous solvents
  • Low protein binding
  • Not resistant to strong acids, bases and ketones

Polypropylene Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Low extractables
  • High resistance to strong acids, bases and most chemicals
  • Not resistant to chlorinated solvents (DCM, Chloroform)
  • Excellent protein recovery

M.E. (Mixed Esterified) Cellulose Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Low protein retention
  • High filter capacity and high flow throughput
  • Ideal for filtration of aqueous HPLC mobile phases

PTFE (Teflon) Properties

  • Hydrophobic
  • Very low extractables
  • Very low protein binding
  • Resistant to most organics, strong acids and bases
  • Excellent thermal stability
  • Ideal for filtration and degassing of HPLC solvents (must be pre-wetted with a suitable organic solvent before filtering aqueous solvents)
  • Ideal for organic solvents

PES (Polyethersulfone) Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Low protein and nucleic acid binding
  • High flow rates, good throughput volume
  • Ideal for strong bases, alcohol and high temperature liquids
  • Not resistant to strong acids, ketones, esters, aromatic and halogenated solvents

Regenerated Cellulose Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Very low protein binding
  • Compatible with all HPLC solvents and aqueous samples in pH 3-12
  • Ideal for biological samples
  • Ideal for tissue culture media filtration
  • Can not be used with strong acids, chloroform and THF

Cellulose Acetate Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Ideal for aqueous base samples
  • Very low protein binding
  • Can not be used with organic solvents

Nitrocellulose Properties

  • Hydrophilic
  • Recommended for clarification and filtration of aqueous samples
